Mapleton

Mapleton, which was settled in 1888, is the most northern of the villages on the Blackall Range, and the first one you come through when coming from Nambour.

The area is renowned for its forests, walks and views. The Mapleton Falls have a sheer drop of 120m, and the viewing platform opens up a magnificent vista of the Mary Valley. Mapleton Falls National park is home to rare native flora and fauna with walks through breathtaking eucalypt forest and rainforest.

The Great Walks of South East Queensland go through Mapleton, which is a great place to stop for the night in one of the quality accommodation houses or caravan parks dotted through the village.

The nights are clear and the stars shine bright, which is why there is an Observatory in Mapleton School Grounds. Check out their website to see when they are open for viewing.

Mapleton is a small village, yet boast four restaurants and cafes plus the famous Mapleton Tavern. Sitting on the verandah at the Tavern and enjoying a meal with a backdrop of views that go on for ever is a must. If you want a picnic, then the magnificent Mapleton Lilyponds Reserve is the just the place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet that Mapleton is famous for.

Flaxton

Flaxton features some fine examples of early "Queenslander" timber homes with spacious verandas and tongue in groove timber walls.

Located on the seaward side of the Blackall Range escarpment, Flaxton has expansive views of the Sunshine Coast.

Consisting of a small group of restaurants, guesthouses, art and craft galleries, and private dwellings nestled in among the avocado orchards, Flaxton is an ideal place to picnic and enjoy life.
